SHERWIN Stanley scored his third goal in two games to help Brentwood Town to a 2-0 victory over Soham Town Rangers at Julius Martin Lane.

The home side had the better chances but goals in either half from Stanley and new signing Marcus Milner, coupled with some fine saves from Ollie Bowles, earned Brentwood the three points.

The Blues made three changes to the team that beat Redhill on Tuesday. Daryl Robson returned from injury alongside Jason Dobbs while Milner was thrown straight into the starting XI after joining from Ware.

Despite suffering a resounding 6-1 home defeat last weekend, Soham made a bright start, attacking from the off.

A neat cut-back from Daniel Brown found Andy Palmer who got a shot away from inside the box, but Bowles was equal to it, saving with his legs in the fourth minute.

Brown had a chance of his own midway through the half, adjusting his body well to execute a fine half-volley, but his effort glanced narrowly wide of the far post.

Brentwood were on the back foot for most of the first half but in the 31st minute they took the lead.

Ex-Rangers full-back Louis Baucutt delivered an inch-perfect cross into Stanley and the striker headed in from six yards to increase his tally for the week to three following a brace against Redhill.

Brentwood remained in front going into the second half and Stanley had a chance to extend their lead just two minutes in but his close range header was scrambled clear.

At the other end Bowles made a fine save to stop Palmer’s low shot before Stanley again went close for the Blues.

Palmer missed an excellent chance to level the score in the 65th minute before Bowles was again called into action, this time saving from Ryan Sharman.

The chances continued to go begging for the home side and they were duly punished as Brentwood sealed the win in the 76th minute.

Robson charged forward from inside his own half and found Bantick whose neat back-heel put the ball on a plate for Milner and the 23-year-old winger produced a powerful angled drive which flew beyond goalkeeper Enol Ordonez and into the bottom corner.

Blues’ joint-boss Adam Flanagan praised his side’s “workmanlike” performance, adding: “We are winning ugly at the moment but we are winning games and that’s the most important thing.

“But I am mindful that the league is really tight, you could lose back-to-back games and find yourself in tenth so we can’t get carried away.”

Brentwood remain fourth in Ryman League Division One North and travel to Suffolk to face AFC Sudbury on Tuesday before next weekend’s FA Trophy clash against Biggleswade Town.
