ADAM Flanagan said his side are defying others’ expectations of them as Brentwood Town stretched their unbeaten run to five matches.

Blues romped to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Wroxham at the Brentwood Centre Arena last Saturday, climbing to seventh in the league.

Christy Finch put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes, but an own-goal from Matthew Halliday sent the teams in level at the break.

But the second half was a one-sided affair and goals from Sherwin Stanley, Shad Ngandu and a brace from Sam Bantick secured the win.

Joint managers Flanagan and Danny Dafter rotated the team once again, making four changes to the side that earned a remarkable victory over Needham Market on Tuesday.

Flanagan said: “I think outside of the club there are a lot of people who think we won’t do well this season, but within the dressing room, within the management team, we’re really confident in the lads so as long as they keep applying themselves right and work hard in training hopefully we’ll surprise a few people.”

Brentwood’s Norfolk opponents went into Saturday’s match unbeaten in six matches in all competitions and they had the better of the opening exchanges. But in-form Bantick spearheaded his side to victory, scoring a dipping free-kick to make it 3-1 and then adding his third goal in two games moments later.

Brentwood faced Crays Wanderers at the Arena on Tuesday, before ahead of an FA Cup clash with London Colney this Saturday.
