PUPILS at Shenfield School were given jobs advice and tips to get the most out of their futures during a visit by an agriculture firm.

The Getting Ahead programme is designed to help pupils prepare for the world of work and think about the skills and qualities they currently have as well as those they need to develop or learn.

Volunteers from the Essex-based firm ADM, which is one of the world's largest agricultural processors and food ingredient providers, visited the school to meet the 14 and 15-year-olds as part of the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership scheme.

Tim Cook, managing director or ADM, said: "We are delighted to be supporting Shenfield High students in helping them think about the work and life skills that they need to develop to be successful in the competitive world of employment.

"Through best-in-class programmes such as Getting Ahead, we are fulfilling our commitment to actively support the local community.

"It’s great to see the students here today explore their own employability skills, and I know that my fellow ADM volunteers have found it very worthwhile.”

Year 10 student, Misha Chobanova added: “I learned about what makes a good CV and what doesn’t and what an employer would expect of me. It was brilliant!”

Staff at the school were delighted their pupils had the opportunity to learn about what would be expected of them once they leave school.

Ayda Kadem, Head of Careers at Shenfield High School said: “The volunteers from ADM worked so well with our students, encouraging them and motivating them throughout.

"I have been particularly pleased to see the students develop their transferable work-related skills such as team working, time management and enterprise skills.

"It was fantastic to see all students end the day delivering their confident and professional pitches marketing the products they developed in their teams.

"A highly enjoyable and useful event and we hope the relationship with ADM will continue."
