FOUR runners have smashed their fundraising target by raising £10,857 forahospice by running the London Marathon.

Jack Baxter, 23, from Pilgrims Hatch, wanted to raise funds for St Francis Hospice, in Romford, after it cared for his dad, Dave, before he died from cancer, aged 48, in 2013.

He took on the testing run with friends Christian Cotter, 27, Andy Grey, 27, and Johnny Phillips 41.

Jack, pictured right, completed the race in 4 hours 31 minutes. He said: “I believe that i f not for the care of the hospice, I’d have said goodbye to my dad far sooner than I had to.

“Their services allowed m e a further three months with my best friend and for this I will always be grateful. It was my first marathon, but it will not be my last.

"I hope to do it again for Saint Francis Hospice next year.

“I was worried about the dreaded wall, but I thought of my dad and where the money was going and that pushed me on.”
