STAFF and students at Brentwood School welcomed a Holocaust survivor to their school.

More than 250 people attended the emotional talk given by Eva Clarke, who was born in Mauthausen Concentration Camp, Austria, in April 1945, just before the end of the Second World War.

Fifteen members of her family were murdered at the notorious concentration camp Auschwitz, including her parents.

A school spokeswoman said: “Eva’s personal testimony highlighted the ultimate tragedy that results from a tolerance of prejudice and hatred.”

She added: “Those who attended the talk left with a renewed commitment to challenge acts of prejudice and intolerance and to ensure their own actions are characterised by kindness and gentleness.”
