A YOUNGSTER from Brentwood suffering with a debilitating tumour had a wet-room built in her home free of charge by a kind-hearted builder.

Vince Knight, who runs VK Services in Grays, carried out the work to fit a £6,000 wet-room, so that Katie Anderson, 12, can shower without her mum Dee having to help.

Katie has a tumour growing on her spinal cord and it is spreading to her brain, robbing her of her ability to walk.

Wipe Away Those Tears, a charity based in Romford, approached Dee offering to pay for a wet room to be built for Katie. When Dee appealed for local builders on Facebook, Vince, 46, answered her call.

Dee, who owns Dee-creases Dry Cleaners in Warley, said: “Vince came round and had a look and met Katie. They hit it off straight away.

“We had just arrived at hospital for Katie’s second round of chemotherapy when Vince called and said there would be no charge. I burst into tears – I was overwhelmed.

“Katie loves her new wet room.”

Vince's good deed has been seen by thousands of people across the country after he posted about it on Facebook.

The social media site's stats showed that by Tuesday, 1.4million people had viewed the post.
