A BUSINESS in Hutton is the latest to receive a low carbon grant in the Brentwood Borough.

A.T. Brown and Co, which is an architectural sign manufacturer based on Tallon Road, will be using the £3,350.70 grant towards the cost of a new, more efficient air conditioning system.

Peter Gardner met the Low Carbon Business team at an industrial estate promotional visit and put in an application for the heat pump system for his office. The project was approved and the work commenced with almost a third of the cost coming from an EU carbon reduction grant.

The programme is set to save Mr Gardner's business over £2,000 in bills each year and reduce his carbon footprint by nearly 8.5 tonnes of CO2 annually.

David Kendall, Brentwood Borough Council's Chair of the Business and Town Centres Committee, said: "I am delighted that A.T. Brown and Co took the opportunity to get some help towards their project through the Low Carbon Business grant. Other companies in the borough could also benefit and I would encourage them to get in touch."

Rob Robinson, Low Carbon Business Delivery Manager, said: "Businesses don’t realise what this funding could be used for until they speak to us, A.T. Brown and Co is a testament to that. Peter hadn’t previously realised that there was potential funding towards his new heating and cooling system, but here we are!

"We’ve helped towards over 700 projects across the South and Mid-Essex areas, all completely different. I urge businesses to give us a call to see if funding is available towards that project they may even have shelved until next year."

Local businesses are reminded that there is a pot of funding still available towards similar projects, including: updating old machinery, upgrading lighting, purchasing new fridges, etc.
