A RECYCLING centre in Kelvedon Hatch is to close for good on Monday.

Brentwood Borough Council made the move to close the Crown Corner centre at an environment committee meeting earlier this week.

It comes following feedback and complaints from residents regarding how the recycling centre at Crown Corner is being used.

The Council have noticed the complaints have increased over recent months, due to the misuse of the centre which is being used as a disposal site for all types of waste and flytipping.

Councillor William Lloyd, Brentwood Borough Council’s Chair of the Environment Committee, said: "The Crown Corner site was originally introduced to provide an opportunity for residents to recycle but since the weekly kerbside recycling started in April 2013, it is no longer needed and staff resources would be better used maintaining other areas of the Borough.

"I’m pleased that we have listened to residents and that councillors on the Environment Committee agreed to close the centre because it is now being misused and causing a nuisance to those that live in the area. I am also pleased we had the support of Parish and Ward Councillors at the meeting.

"I would like to reassure residents that although we are closing the site and it will be landscaped to removed the fences, we will continue to monitor it to make sure that illegal flytipping does not take place."
