BRENTWOOD Conservatives want a bigger say on the future of any large-scale development at William Hunter Way.

Four councillors man the focus group, with a representative from each ward also involved, but they are all from the council’s coalition administration.

The Tories have put forward a motion for next month’s full council meeting requesting their members be represented on the group.

The motion, put forward by councillor William Russell, says: “We agree that in the name of openness, transparency, scrutiny and democracy, the Conservatives should be included proportionate to the number of council seats held. This will ensure fairness all round.”

Original plans put together by the then Tory administration fell through earlier this year after EIGHT years of talks following a disagreement on how to fund the project.

However Brentwood First councillor, Russell Quirk, who chairs the meetings, said: “I have made it clear everyone can get involved and have a say, but the Tories haven’t turned up so far.”
